LOFT
A space at the top of a building, in the centre of the city, dedicated to supporting independent dance practice in South Australia.
Located at Level One, Lion Arts Centre, LOFT provides residencies, space to create and opportunities for independent dance artists to flex, explore and extend their practice alongside their peers locally, nationally and internationally.
A joint-initiative between ADT and CreateSA, LOFT provides time, space and paid residency opportunities for artists in South Australia and beyond.
Applications for the 2026 EXPOUND Residency are now open. EXPOUND is the largest residency of its kind in Australia, giving a successful artist or collective up to 6 weeks of studio time and a grant of $30,000 to support a choreographic project at any stage of development.
EXPLORE Residencies and EXPERIMENT Residencies will open soon.
Part of LOFT, a national platform for choreographic research and creation led by Australian Dance Theatre (ADT) and CreateSA.
EXPOUND is the largest residency of its kind in Australia, providing up to six weeks of studio time and a $30,000 grant. It is designed for mid-career or established artists or collectives with a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in dance, movement or body-based practice.
The residency will take place at the LOFT studio, located on the top floor of the Lion Arts Factory (68–70 North Terrace, Adelaide 5000). The residency period is flexible between 16 February and 27 March 2026.
Established by Australian Dance Theatre (ADT), EXPOUND aims to support choreographic innovation and artist-led inquiry. It responds to a shortage of opportunities that provide artists with extended, uninterrupted time to deepen the rigour of their practice. Projects may focus on research, creative development, remounting, or the creation of a new work.
